Language

Kurdish language is spoken by the majority of the Kurds. It’s one of 2 official languages in Iraq, a recognized minority language in Armenia and official language in Rojava since the declaration of autonomy.

Kurdish people are mostly bilingual. They speak the official languages of the states which occupy different parts of Kurdistan. Since the Kurdish migration to EU and America began, number of multilingual Kurds increased.

Some Kurds could not retain Kurdish language as a result of forceful assimilation policies implemented by the occupying states. Beside this, a significant number of Kurds adopted another language because of intermarriages and trade relations.
