Kurds (Kurdish کورد Kurd) are a West Asian ethnic group whose main settlement area is called Kurdistan. They form a significant autochthonous ethnic group in Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria. The Kurdish language belongs to the Indo-European languages, specifically to the north-western branch of the Iranic languages.

The population of the Kurdish people is not exactly known because data on Kurdish ethnicity are not collected in the countries where most Kurds live. Most estimates range between 25-30 million.
